Looking forward to a Christmas break
Hi everyone, finally got round to getting my blog on for this month. I have been doing some great stuff this month. We had our core group Christmas night out last week which was fantastic we were lucky to be joined by our very helpful and loyal volunteers who help us plan our events and work on the website. A big thank you has to go to everyone who helps the Parents' Forum be what it is, it would not happen without the vision, effort and drive of those parents you don't see!
I have also been on some training this month for a new programme involving supporting parents and families in schools called the FAST (Families and School Together) programme. This wonderful new project is being piloted at Fairlight Primary School and after being trained by the founder of the programme who came over from the USA all the parents and professionals involved are very excited about getting started in the new year. I will of course let you know how this goes over the coming months.
The parents' forum also met with Susie Haworth the School Meals Manager as part of the ongoing consultation about food in schools. We had the opportunity to discuss the previous consultation feedback from parents, as well as the issues that had arisen from the first meeting with parents. We began to discuss how parents can be more involved in influencing food issues in schools across the city and started to refine what the real issues seem to be for parents and families around meals in schools.
I am now looking forward to a lovely Christmas break with my family and will be ready to start the new year fresh and full of ideas to take forward all the activities the parents' forum have planned for next year. Please don't forget to take a look at the quick questionnaire about planning an event for parents of teenagers, we are hoping to plan this for spring and if anyone would like to get more involved in the planning of this event please contact me tasha@bhparentsforum.org.
