Are you a teenager or young adult that would like an opportunity to participate in volunteering.  Volunteering is a great way to not only help in your community, but to allow you to gain invaluable experience to put on your CV that could help you get the career you want.

V Talent is a project, now in its 2nd year, which enables 16-25 year olds to have an opportunity to volunteer in a 44 week placement within the CYPT here in Brighton and Hove.

Placements on offer within CYPT are:

  • Youth Services
  • Children Centre's
  • Schools
  • Nurseries
  • Play work
  • Sports Training Programme

The placement is split into 4 modules:

  • Module One - Understanding the programme and volunteer roles, skills audit and planning the personal development journey.

This module starts with a five day residential delivered by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Volunteers will receive an induction to their placement as well as undertake an audit of their existing skills and work on a personal development plan. Following the residential the volunteers will undertake Council training and be fully inducted into the Council. Volunteers will also discuss their options for undertaking a relevant accredited Level 2 Qualification, for example, NVQ2 Teaching Assistant or NVQ2 in Youth Work.

  • Module Two - Volunteers taking the lead.

The volunteers will have settled into their placements and should now have the opportunity to take increased responsibility in their roles, testing and developing their skills on the placement. On-going support and encouragement is given by the Project Co-ordinator and the Mentor within the placement.  During module 2 there will be a 2-day residential where they will review their progress and reflect and share their learning's with each other. At this point the volunteers will be encouraged to identify how their skills have developed during their placement and to set new goals for the remainder of the programme.

  • Module Three - Embedding skills & Learning, Preparing for transition into education, training or employment.

Module 3 is an opportunity for the young person to embed their skills and learning, and prepare for transition into education, training or employment. Volunteers will review their progress and learning against their personal development plan. They are able at this point to apply for a Personal Development Grant up to £1,500 to support their progression.

The volunteer will also complete the requirements of the accredited Level 2 Qualification and submit evidence for assessment.

At the conclusion of the project there will be a chance to celebrate their achievements and discuss their time on the programme.

  • Module Four - Transition.

The Project Co-ordinator will be available for up to 4 weeks after the conclusion of the volunteering placement. During this time, the volunteer can continue to access information, advice and guidance or be referred / signposted to other relevant sources of support which will assist the young person in accessing further education, training or employment.

If you are accepted on the program you may quailify for up to £30 a week to cover your expenses as well as if you are a parent you should also be able to get help to cover your childcare costs.
