The city's biggest ever exhibition of sports and physical activity - TAKEPART Launch Day on Saturday 19 June in Preston Park - is providing a big welcome for kids and adults with special needs and disabilities.

Local special needs charity Amaze is hosting the ‘Amazing Zone' in the centre of the park, a focal point for children, young people and adults with disabilities, special educational needs and complex health needs. Apart from providing a space to relax, the zone will provide taster sessions in different sports; leisure activities to sign up to; and information about special needs activities in Brighton & Hove and the support available to help people access them. The Amazing Zone will also provide information on the range of special needs activities happening around the park on the day.

The co-operative Membership is also providing two coaches as a free shuttle for members of the community to access the event. The coaches will run throughout the afternoon picking up and dropping off from:

1. Portslade Sports Centre - Portland Road Co-op store - Nevill Road Co-op store - Preston Park

2. Whitehawk Manor Road store - Woodingdean Co-op store - Moulsecomb Primary School - Preston Park

"This new zone gives a clear message to kids and adults with special needs - TAKEPART  welcomes you!" says TAKEPART Coordinator, Jo Wait.

Amaze Interim Director, Joanna Martindale, adds: "The Amazing Zone won't just be fun - it'll also provide a vital source of information on leisure across the city. We want children, young people and adults with special needs to leave the park on 19 June inspired by the range of opportunities on offer".

TAKEPART launch Day runs from noon till 5pm on Saturday 19 June. The day is part of the two week festival in Brighton & Hove that recaptures the fun of sport and physical activity. 12,000 people attended the launch event last year and over 59,000 people took part in the two week festival.  TAKEPART is the most successful event of its kind in the country and has been recognised by the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England.
