SunSmart Summer Roadshow 2010

Beauty is only skin deep - or so the saying goes - and this summer Cancer Research UK is inviting you to see for yourself by visiting their SunSmart Roadshow.

On Saturday 31 July, the roadshow is taking to the streets of Brighton & Hove to give you the opportunity to try out a special machine known as a UV skin scanner, allowing you to see, close-up-and-personal, exactly what UV damage looks like on your own skin.

The scanners reveal the unseen damage caused by sunburn and over exposure to UV rays given off by the sun and sunbeds, ranging from liver spots to wrinkles. When you are young, this damage may not be visible to the naked eye. But, as the UV skin scanners show, it is there and will increasingly show up as you get older.

Visitors to the roadshow will also have the chance to discuss how to avoid sunburn and protect their skin by using shade, clothing and sunscreen.

We all need some sun to help keep us healthy, but it can be easy to get caught out by sunburn. And when it comes down to it, sunburn can double the risk of developing malignant melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer - what better reason not to let it catch you out?

The roadshow will help you to make a real effort to look after your skin and enjoy the sun safely whether at home or abroad. The roadshow will be at The Old Paddling Pool on Lower Promenade, Kings Road from 8am - 6pm on Saturday 31 July.
