Summer Reading Challenge 2009

With Summer Holidays less than two weeks away it is now time for the Summer Reading Challenge 2009 to begin.  This year the challenge, in its 11th year, has been named Quest Seekers and runs from July 11th to Sunday September 13th.

Children participating in this challenge will join Belle, Louis, and Raj, the Quest Seekers, on their fantasy quest to find the golden book.  There has also been a fun website set up for children to play games as one of the Quest Seekers characters in their quest.

The Reading Agency organises this yearly challenge with all of the libraries in the UK to encourage children to continue to read during the summer holidays.  They are asking all participating children to read a minimum of 6 books that they must get from their local library in hopes to encourage them to be life-long reading lovers.

Go down to your local Library with your children to sign up and they will receive a moving image membership card and a poster that they will be able to use to track their progress on their quest with stickers they will receive from the library when they finish each book.  When they have completed the challenge they will receive a certificate and maybe more depending on the library.

The launch event for Quest Seekers in Brighton and Hove will be July 11th at Jubilee Library from 1pm onwards.  There will be lots of crafts and other fun things to do, so bring the whole family and join your children in the quest for the love on reading.
