School Holiday Dates Agreed

Back in December we opened our first on-line consultation, 2010-2011 School Holiday Dates Proposal.

You were asked to choose one of two proposed school calendars and those of you that participated were not shy about telling us what you thought about which proposal you preferred.

One of you said, "I would prefer option b for several reasons, one of the main ones is the date of returning back in September from the summer holidays if you choose option a it means after inset days at the beginning of term that this will be a very long summer holiday and difficult for working parents to find childcare for the first week of September. Also it would be preferable to have a longer time off with the children the week before Christmas rather than after as there is more to do and lots of workplaces close down at the end of Dec but it becomes more difficult the later the children go back in January again because of time off of work and childcare."

When asked if you had any other comments about the issue almost all of you said the same thing.

"this is a bit of a nightmare of a year for school holidays and it is important to get this right for families as in previous years decisions about when school holidays fall makes it very difficult for families who are working and have to arrange childcare. Please listen to what we are saying and act on it; it is not all about the schools and teachers!"

Though we had views supporting both proposals it was obvious to us that Option B was the overall choice of the parents who completed our survey.

It has now been announced that Option B has been chosen.  To see the school holiday dates chosen click here.

We would like to thank all of you that gave your views.  This shows us parents are being listened to and that is why we are here.
