Portslade Community College Proposal
**UPDATE**
Portslade Academy proposals - find out more
Three public consultation meetings have been set up to let residents find out more about and help shape proposals to replace Portslade Community College with a Portslade Community Academy in September 2011.
The first date – just before the half-term break – is on Friday 28 May at 10am at the Mile Oak Community Centre on Chalky Road. This will take the form of a half-hour question and answer session as part of the regular meeting of the Portslade Community Forum.
After the half-term break there are two further meetings:
- Thursday 10 June at 7pm at Portslade Community College
- Monday 14 June at 7pm at the Village Centre in Windlesham Close.
Portslade Community College is a National Challenge School because its performance in relation to the number of pupils achieving 5+ A* - C, including English and Maths, is less than 30%. Performance over the last four years has declined and the Local Authority, the Department for Children Schools Families (DCSF) and the Office of the Schools Commissioner have identified this as a serious concern requiring radical action.
This consultation is about the possible replacement of Portslade Community College by an Academy. The proposal is to open the Portslade Community Academy, specialising in Entrepreneurship and Science, in September 2011 on the same school site. The lead sponsor would be the Aldridge Foundation with the Council as co sponsor and the University of Sussex as Education Partner.
