Books for all!
October seems to be the month for all things 'bookish'!
From 5th -11th October it is National Children's Book Week 2009...
then for the pre-school children it's National Bookstart Day 2009 on Friday 9th October.
Children’s Book Week is a celebration of reading for pleasure for children of primary school age and the theme this year will be Words and Pictures.
Intuitive Media and Scholastic Book Clubs and Fairs are holding an exciting new Virtual Literary Festival during Children's Book Week. Thousands of children across the UK will have access to ‘Hot Seat’ interviews with authors and illustrators including Jacqueline Wilson, Martin Brown, Holly Webb and Children’s Laureate Anthony Browne, via Intuitive Media’s safe and mediated social networking sites for young people from 5th-9th October. There are some exciting competitions as well for young authors and illustrators!
Then for National Bookstart Day 2009 there are some special story & rhyme sessions happening in our local libraries. The theme is 'my favourite rhyme' and all are welcome to dress up as their favourite nursery rhyme characters as well!
Check them out on our events calendar.
There are also competitions, free activity sheets and lots more on their website.
Sounds like there is something for everyone, we hope you have a lovely week reading with your children!
