Balfour School Merger Proposal
Brighton and Hove Council is proposing to create a new primary school to replace Balfour Infant and Junior Schools by closing Balfour Junior School and extending the age range to create a new single school catering for pupils aged 4-11 years.
The junior school will be closed and the site will be used as part of the new school. An important part of this proposal is consultation with parents and carers, governors, staff and pupils at the school and anyone else who may have an interest in the proposal.
The Council has had a policy of supporting the incorporation of infant and junior schools where appropriate since 2000. Protocols have been established following the Scrutiny Panel and report recommendations following the merger of three primary schools in 1999.
The protocol has been revised after the Children and Young People's Trust and its publication of the Primary Strategy for Change had been established. The revised protocol was adopted at the Cabinet Member meeting on 30th July 2008 and was carried out in September 2008.
Consultation and decision making
The Consultation document sets out the reasons for the proposal, the advantages as the Council sees them, the process that needs to be followed to make the changes and the views of the governing bodies of the schools.
All views are important in the decision making process. Please have a look at the proposal consultation documentĀ and complete the feedback form using the links below.
